The artist has handed over the entirety of his £25k honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the Britain's independent live music spots.

He was awarded the award on October 16 as his new release People Watching was named the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages played in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved this success if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," remarked the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, top acts like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

He also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to assist numerous local spots across the UK.

These funds helped venues that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces received financial assistance in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in big venues supports the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

Fender is among several artists to donate his Mercury Prize funds to charitable organizations.

Back when Pulp received the trophy in the year 1996 for their record their work, frontman Cocker stated that the group would donate their cash to the organization the charity.

In 2002, musician the artist shared her prize among multiple good causes, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

Two years ago, the band gave their prize money to the community center that supported their band, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients M People gave their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," stated vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success touched the lives of others."

Last week, the MVT revealed it had saved two small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who acquire "shares" in the properties.
